Female Health

We offer a range of medical services tailored to women’s health needs, including family planning, contraceptive advice, sexual health services, antenatal care, and cervical screening. Our experienced team is here to help with various gynaecological issues such as menstruation problems, menopause, urinary concerns, and pelvic pain.

Cervical Screening

Cervical screening helps prevent cervical cancer by detecting early changes in the cervix. This test is not for cancer but checks the health of the cervix. It is available to women aged 25 to 65. Most results are normal, but for a small number of women, the test might show changes that need further investigation. Cervical screening is a quick procedure and is an effective way to monitor cervical health.

Breast Check

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Early detection is key to effective treatment. The Breast Check programme offers free mammograms to women aged 50 to 69 every two years to help find breast cancer early. It’s also important for all women to regularly check their breasts for any changes or lumps.

Menopause

Menopause marks the end of a woman’s menstrual periods and natural ability to conceive. It typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, with an average age of 51. Symptoms can start months or years before periods stop and may include:
  • Hot flushes
  • Night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Low mood or anxiety
  • Reduced libido
  • Memory and concentration issues

Menopausal symptoms can last for several years. If symptoms are severe or start before age 45, consult your GP. Treatments may include hormone replacement therapy (HRT), vaginal oestrogen treatments, or cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Lifestyle changes, like a healthy diet and regular exercise, can also help manage symptoms. Your GP can guide you on the best treatment options or refer you to a specialist if needed.
